Sonhos – Pequenos Formatos

“This is a collection of quite informal oil paintings and watercolors. Many of them belonged to series, sometimes large ones, and survive almost as footprints, as traces of a walk.

That is because it is in small formats that the experiments arise which will later be carried forward onto the large canvases.

Large formats and elaborate techniques are not suited to this; they take too long and demand too much. Large formats require great sustained effort, pauses for drying and a finish of another order, and sometimes stretch over months.

From time to time one needs to cover ground, to cross a great distance quickly, with persistence and apparent ease. From time to time one needs something quick that allows a great number of variations and permutations to be tried in a few hours. For that, watercolor, collage, drawing and the oil sketch are better suited.

These are the walks. I go on, errant, wandering, wayfaring, journeying, nomad, rambler and walker. And when I walk, I dream, mixing outer and inner images to the point of walking on other ground.”
